Two and a half thousand years ago in Ancient Greece, the philosopher Socrates grappled with the question what it takes to make a better self — is it the desire for truth, or just the ability to win arguments and convince people of your point of view? The Pathways School of Philosophy www.philosophypathways.com has offered distance learning courses in Western philosophy since 1995. We have students in over 60 countries, including an increasing number taking philosophy degrees with London University, UK. However, there are many more who study philosophy for no other reason than sheer enjoyment and the desire to improve one's mind.
